Probably Stolen Water Guide: Test, Clean and Label
Learn the Probably Stolen water loop: test your stock, match treatment to contaminants, check the grade and label correctly using current release sources.
Quick answer
Test the water first, then match treatment to its contaminants. Use purification tablets or UV for microbes and a pitcher filter for filterable material; ordinary filtering cannot remove chemical contamination or heavy metals. Retest after treatment and set the label to the verified grade. The community-documented Pure Water route uses a powered Water Purifier with at least 100% Quality.
Test before buying or treating water
Drag a water testing strip onto the liquid container to check its purity and grade. You can also test a customer's water before buying it, so do not accept the label as the measurement. Strips are single-use, while AquaScan provides a reusable composition check showing the liquids present and their amounts. Water Trading Made Easy · Testing and composition reference
Use the grade to understand the result and the composition to choose the treatment. Those are different questions: knowing that water is below your target does not, by itself, tell you what the next filter can remove.
Match the treatment to the problem
| What the check reveals | Supported treatment or limitation |
|---|---|
| Microbes | Use purification tablets or UV; a water filter does not remove them. |
| Organic waste, mineral or physical contamination | A filter fitted to a pitcher removes these filterable materials. |
| Microplastic | Listed among the pitcher filter's targets. |
| Chemical contamination or heavy metals | Ordinary water filtration does not remove these. |
| A depleted pitcher filter | Replace the filter before repeating filtration. |
The filter targets are described in the water reference and demonstrated for organic waste, mineral and physical contamination in water footage, 1:25–2:01. The community water guide separately identifies the microbial and chemical limitations.
Follow the basic treatment loop
- Test the starting container and inspect its composition if AquaScan is available.
- Apply a purification tablet for microbial treatment, or use the documented UV alternative.
- Fit a usable water filter to a pitcher.
- Pour the water into the pitcher so it passes through the filter.
- Transfer the treated liquid into another container.
- Test the result before deciding what grade to sell.
This sequence combines microbial treatment with filtration instead of expecting one tool to do both jobs. If the filter is depleted, replace it and repeat the relevant filtering step. Retesting remains part of the routine even when the same process worked on an earlier container. Documented treatment sequence · Pitcher operation
Use the powered purifier for the documented Pure Water route
Load a water container into the Water Purifier and provide battery power before leaving it to work overnight. Check both inputs: powering an empty machine does not fulfill the documented loading sequence. Purifier instructions · Loading demonstration, 5:38–5:45
Community guidance describes using a purifier with at least 100% Quality to reach 99.9% purity. The accompanying written route starts with 99.00% high-quality water, while the footage explains that completion depends on machine performance. Use this as a documented route to check against your equipment, not a promise that any starting liquid or container will finish in one night. Pure Water route · Quality and duration discussion, 4:33–5:39
Hotfix 1.0.0.2 reworked the purifier's logic. Older purifier descriptions should therefore not override the behavior of your current machine. Official purifier change
Label the measured result
The labeler changes the declared grade; it does not perform treatment. A strip or AquaScan can show the label, with Match label available for your own water and Confront for a customer's overstated water. Test first and make your own label agree with the result rather than using a higher label as proof of purity. Label controls · Labeler explanation
If you want to signal water trading to customers, the display case can indicate that business line. This is separate from proving the quality of the water inside a particular container. Display-case guidance · Water display example, 1:39–1:53
Troubleshooting questions
Why does filtered water still contain microbes?
Microbes are not a pitcher filter target. Use purification tablets or UV, then test again; another pass through a working filter does not replace the separate microbial treatment. Guide explanation · UV demonstration, 1:25
Why has filtering stopped improving the grade?
Check for a depleted filter first, then inspect what remains. Chemical contamination and heavy metals cannot be removed by ordinary filtration, so repeatedly filtering those contaminants is not the documented solution. Filter limits · Technical confirmation
Why does a scanner show slightly less volume than expected?
Since 1.0.0.5, scanners truncate liquid volumes to hundredths instead of rounding upward. For example, 1996 µl displays as 1.99 mL rather than 2.00 mL. The readout is designed not to claim more liquid than the container holds. Official scanner change
